Texas woman gets electric bill for $1.3 million

Texas – A woman recently opened up her monthly electric bill to find that she was charged $1.3million.
Kristin Harriger, of Abilene, Texas, received a bill from Dallas-based Potentia Energy earlier this month for a balance of $1,381,783.92.
The electric company blamed a third-party business that handled the billing for the mistake that also listed Ms Harriger responsible to pay an additional $66,000 if she paid the balance late.
Sehr Charania, Potentia external affairs officer, told Business Insider that the company acted promptly to resolve the problem.
She said: ‘When Ms. Harriger informed us of the erroneous bill, we responded within five minutes and assured her that we would rectify the situation, which is what we have done.’ More

Bear breaks in while cottagers golfed

Canada – It’s a frightening reminder of the consequences of letting your guard down in Manitoba’s bear country. And a group of cottagers are lucky that a big food mess, along with a busted door and windows, are their only damage because of it.
Ryan Owen, his father and a few friends returned to their cottage in the Falcon Lake area after playing golf to find its kitchen virtually turned upside down by a bear that had ripped open a window screen to get inside.
“There were paw prints on the counter,” Owen, 30, told QMI Agency. “It’s a big mess. And kind of scary.”
Their mistake, he said, was leaving a virtual smorgasbord on the counters, with only the cabin’s window screens to protect the goodies. More

$2,000 fine for feeding the birds

Please stop feeding those wild turkeys! That may be the only humane way to deal with a foul flock of birds in Hainesport Township, New Jersey that seems to be getting increasingly aggressive.
“They come after my car all the time,” Melanie Morton told the Burlington County Times.
Morton said she even witnessed a wild turkey attacking a jogger one day. “It was terrifying,” Morton said.
Morton decided to investigate a little more; find out why the wild turkeys were hanging around her neighborhood. She claims a neighbor has been feeding them. So now the town is considering an ordinance to ban folks from feeding the birds. Violators would faces fines up to $2,000. More

Judge orders woman to cut off daughter’s ponytail in court

The mother of a 13-year-old girl says she has filed a formal complaint against a juvenile court judge who told her he’d cut her daughter’s sentence if she cut off the girl’s ponytail in his courtroom.
“She definitely needed to be punished for what had happened,” Valerie Bruno told the Deseret News. “But I never dream’t it would be that much of a punishment.”
Bruno’s daughter, Kaytlen Lopan, was referred to 7th District Juvenile Judge Scott Johansen’s court in March for an allegation of assault. Lopan and a friend endeared themselves to a 3-year-old girl at McDonald’s in Price and then used scissors to cut several inches of hair from the little girl’s head, according to Price police. More

Trainee hypnotist forced to call in help after girls are locked in a trance

Girls at a private school in Canada were locked into a trance for several hours after a trainee hypnotherapist could not snap them out of it.

Maxime Nadeau (Picture), 20, hypnotized a group of 12 to 13-year-old students at College du Sacre-Coeur in Sherbooke, Quebec, for an end of year show.

But five students – most of whom were merely watching in the audience – got more than they bargained for when they remained in ‘mass hypnosis’ and could not be roused.
One student was locked into the trance for five hours, forcing the trainee hypnotist to call his mentor, Richard Whitbread, for an emergency intervention. More
